Church Sign Calls Obama a Communist Muslim

Here’s a memo to all churches that want to keep their non-profit status:  Don’t put signs in front of your church that support or denounce political candidates.  If you do, at least make sure you’re accurate.

A pastor in none other than Texas – the place that loves President Obama so much – got attention by putting a statement about Obama on the marquee of his building: “VOTE FOR THE MORMON, NOT THE MUSLIM! THE CAPITALIST, NOT THE COMMUNIST!”

The church’s statement is consistent with those who believe that President Obama is secretly a Muslim and just pretending to be a Christian.   Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is a Mormon.

Pastor Ray Miller says that the sign was his idea because he doesn’t want Obama to win the election.  He said that he changes the marquee every single week and is not afraid to speak his mind.   The problem for the pastor is that churches are not allowed to support or go against any candidate.

“They are permitted under the tax laws to engage in other political activities (e.g., distribute voter guides and invite candidates to speak at church functions) so long as such activity does not support or oppose a candidate,” according to a report on maintaining your non-profit status.

This regulation is rarely enforced, however, since only two churches have lost their non-profit status for this reason since 2002.

“It’s their prerogative, it’s their opinion, it’s their church,” a resident, Pamela Rice told KVUE.
