Witness Claims Surviving Cowboy Refused to Help Dying Teammate

According to the Dallas Morning News, a witness to the deadly accident involving Dallas Cowboys players Josh Brent and Jerry Brown is saying that the surviving player refused to help his teammate out of the car.  The witness says that it was only after begging and pleading that he offered to help him.

Brown was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.  Brent is being charged intoxication manslaughter.

“Jerry was alive. He was hurt. He was calling out and his own friend walked away,” the witness said.

Brent’s attorney, George Milner, says the witness is wrong:

“That is absolutely false,” he said. “That’s not even consistent with what the police said when they came up on the scene. What I’ve been told is that Jerry Brown was never conscious after the accident. She’s a nut and she better be careful with this one.”

The woman says she was driving home from her birthday party when she saw the accident.  She says that Brent’s Mercedes was flipped over and started to catch on fire.  She pulled over to help Brent, but says that she was shocked at his reaction.

“I jumped out and ran out toward the wreck and Josh Brent was standing to the side in the grass,” she said. “And I yelled to him, ‘Are you ok? Are you ok?’ And he told me he was fine. I was relieved because I thought it’s just a single car accident, nobody’s hurt. And then fire sparked up from the car and got bigger and I started to hear screams.”

She says that as the fire got bigger, Brent refused to help.

“He looked at me and said, ‘He won’t get out of the car.’ And I said, ‘Get him out of the car. You have to save him.’”

She said she ran to get her phone to call 911 and came back to find that Brent still hadn’t done anything.

“He did nothing,” she said. “He didn’t say come on, hang in there, hold his hand. That’s what upsets me the most at this point. He abandoned him.”

The witness admits that Brent was probably in shock, but she was also shocked that he didn’t help his friend.

“I’m sure he was because he is human,” she said. “He may have been in shock, but he was very coherent at the time.”

  1. Obviously they were not as good of friends as people thought.

  2. Why does it have to be racism? We do sometimes tend to use that word loosely. Perhaps the person is lying, then maybe not. But the account they give is not judgmental. It is either a true or false factual statement. I hope it is false. But if true, perhaps there is a psychological explanation. Who knows?

  5. THIS IS TERRIBLE! I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, BOTH CARS WERE TOTALED. MY DOORS WERE CLOSED, BENT AND THE POLICE COULD NOT OPEN THEM. I COULD SEE THEM, I COULD SEE THEM GESTURING TO ME BUT I COULD HEAR NOTHING. FINALLY INSTEAD OF WAITING ON THE JAWS OF LIFE TO GET ME OUT OF THE CAR, SIX OFFICERS PULLED THE DRIVER DOOR OPEN AND GOT ME OUT. I COULD SEE ALL, COULD NOT RESPOND, I COULD NOT HEAR. I LEARNED LATER I WAS IN SHOCK.

    DON’T JUDGE!

  6. Yes Greg is a white man, He gets to spread his racist vitriol pretending to be black.

  7. Innocent until proven guilty. Sounds like alot of racism going on in the previous comments.

  8. These were the effects of drugs and alcohol and shock.

  9. There people go JUDGING AGAIN,If you have ever been in an accident, SHOCK takes over so the possibiity of that is real.No one knows if mently he was trying to get it together if he was impaired and moving someone in a crash without proper knowledge could cause more damage to the victim.Walk a mile in his shoe before judging.

  10. i don’t what it’s going take for ppl to learn not to drive drunk…sad.

  11. How many drunk people do you know or have met understands anything you say. If she was coming from a party she probably was drunk too. I’m sure this is not the truth, they were best friends.

  12. Well he live and work in Texas, the hanging state. I hope they try him find him guilty of murder and hang his BA.Deunk driving is a crime, these athletes believed they are above the laws, and can do what they want and get away with it. Hope fully they will make an example of him.HANG HIM HIGH.

I was under the impression that brent was the one that pulled brown out of the car, but who knows none of us were there.

  16. Why would she lie? She has nothing to gain.

Really? The focus shouldn't be whether he helped or not. The focus should be why was his ass drinking and driving to begin with? To be a PRO-BALLER/CELEB figure in the public eye where younger fans look up to him, he acted irresponsibly, probably more than once….ten times, but this is the one that landed his dumb ass in hot water.

  18. Wow… everyone wants the lime light. Sad that the Brown has to read this garbage! Rest in peace Jerry Brown and my prayer go out to his family!

  19. Uh she was driving home from her bday party? I know like me many have had parties and I don't usually drive myself…ijs.

  20. I bet shes white.. White are so full of drama..and big liars..this is happening more and more now adays…

    • The chances are that she is right regardless of her race. That big ole typical n-word is acting just like most of us. We are always putting up this big front around white folks. He is selfish like we are. And he let his suposedly best friend die. This is so typical of the black people. This is why we are a pathetic group of people we are now. It was this big collard greens eating offensive lineman fault for driving drunk again. And the other black man should have never got in a car with him. He know how n-words are. I am not gong to lie and pretend about this. The so-called white woman had no reason to lie about what she saw. She saw n-wordism at its finest.

      • Ether you a a self hating blackman or you are white this sh*t you wrote is the most racist thing I have ever seen, Probably a white man posing as a black, I live in Texas asnd what this lady wrote is pure fabrication, when the police arrived Mr. Brent was trying to pull his friend from the car, because a small fire had started but never engulfed the car, Th is report was on FOX news, so now all of you posers can believe it.

  22. I would imagine Josh Brent being in shock or possibly disoriented (out of it) after a night of drinking. I can't imagine how terrible he must feel for causing the death of a very close friend. I don't believe he stood there coherently and watched his best friend die. That is unimaginable b/c strangers have known to help out in a crisis. I was 5 yrs. old when I witnessed my 4 yr. old female cousin afire but I did run to adults for help. Children playin with matches – her robe caught on fire. I was returning from kindergarten and heard screams coming from my cousins home. I pushed open the door so hard I fell right in front of her in flames. At 5 yrs. old I knew to go get help. My cousin died the next day. So I do believe Josh Brent could not have been in his rightframe of mind. I know if it were a family member or close friend I would have died trying to help out. I wasn't there at the scene but I do know sometimes two people can witness the same occurance but come up with different views and or conclusions. Not saying the witness is lying – I wasn't there.

    • I agree. I don't think he would have just watched either. The reason these two were so close as Cowboys is because they also played football together in college. It just so happened that they ended up on the same pro team. So they were extreemly close. Well, I guess you can say like family. I wouldn't watch a stranger burn to death. Let alone someone I've known for six years.

  23. The ONLY way he could have helped his friend was to say…"SORRY MAN YOU CAN'T RIDE WITH ME, I"VE BEEN DRINKING."!!!!!

  24. WTH now she saying that he did not help his friend who is this witness and why now she is just showing up.. People will do anything to get their 15 min of fame.

  25. Why did they conceal her name? If you going to accuse someone of neglect in a murder..put your name on it lady!

  26. I don't know what difference this makes. The real truth is he killed his friend just as if he put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger! I don't know why this woman story is out there and I also don't know why everyone is jumping on her. She stopped and called 911, she was obligated to do no more. He could have been in shock or he could have been stressed knowing that he f'ed up pretty bad. Host of reason, he will have to deal with that. But if you think I'm reaching my azz in that car to save him your crazy! I have a family at home that is counting on me! I LA two women went to help a man that was trapped in his car after an accident and the went in ankle deep water not know he had knocked down a light pole and were electrocuted! So for those that asked why didn't she pull him out think about that.

  27. Why was his hand bandage wrap…I think he helped

  28. Since she got there after the fact, can her story be believable. If he did nothing to assist his friend, his consciousness will eat him up. If he tried, it probably still will, but he can say I tried. He has enough on him no matter what he did or did not do. No one knows what really happen.

  29. Why not believe what this woman says? What motive does she have to make this up? I learned along time ago all your friends are not your friends. It's likely he was a little destraunt moments after a roll over car crash but to do nothing, with your friend screaming for his life smh some friend.

    • Why was his hand wrapped. It was bandaged wrap like when people get burn. Did ya'll not see the t.v. news report and or he could have suffered an concussion himself. Afterall they did flip. After a concussion just b/c u r up does NOT mean u are aware of thgs even when ppl are speaking to you (I know b/c my child was in a concussion program after being injuried).

    • My son too suffer a concussion while playing college football and he kept calling me from someone cell phone that was on the field guess what he do not remember a d.. thing.. So who ever this "witness is really need to shut the h… up. How do we know that she really stop believe me would have her name a ll over the news..

  30. The witness said she was driving home from her own birthday party, I'm assuming at the wee hours of the morning. Not implying that she was drinking, but was she?

  31. Trina Runnels Holloman

This woman is not a doctor or an EMT or any other medical personnel….. She's a witness after the fact. She doesn't know if the man was on shock or suffering a concussion or what…She was probably in shock herself! I think I would be if I saw that. We have to be very careful about taking the word of a 'witness'… Many 'witnesses' to crimes have been the key reason why innocent men go to jail after a so called witness swears on their 1st born child about what they THINK they saw & remember. Please stay in prayer for all the families involved in this tragedy.

    • she said she was probably in shock as well but she pleaded with him to help and called the police. Why would she lie? What is to gain?

    • Trina Runnels Holloman

I don't know…..maybe 5 seconds of fame? Maybe she's exaggerating her easing b'cz it SEEMED TO HER that she was begging & pleading for him to help. My thing is why plead for him to help??? He was just in the accident & I'm sure his mental factors were not at all up to par, since he caused the accident. She is the one who should hv immediately called 911… Not plead with an accident victim to help rescue the other accident victim.

    • Not to say she's lying Ty but she gains attention. TV interviews, etc.

    • She really has no reason for lying. Its her version of what happen. But would we be defending this guy and calling her a liar if he wasn't a pro athlete?

  32. The witness said, he didn't help him so WTF did she do? Stood there looking at him not helping whereas she could have helped him. This is some straight up BS lies to be in the spotlight.

  33. The witness said, he didn't help him so.
