What's Happening In Your World
By Dr. Boyce Watkins Let’s be clear:  Millions of Black women are deeply in love with President  Obama .  They love the fact that Obama represents the powerful black man who remains dedicated to a black woman and raises beautiful black children.  They fantasize about him in a way that reminds us that love is completely blind:  Policy doesn’t usually matter nearly as much as Obama’s “presidential swag” and the beautiful family photos on the cover of Essence Magazine.   This love affair never would have started had the first lady’s name been Misty Obama. Black women also love their pastors.  A man who doesn’t go to church can be tossed to the side as a potential marital partner if he doesn’t go to church, in part because faith and black women go together like Flavor Flav and his clock.   Millions of black women show up to church religiously (pun intended), quote the bible regularly and even take notes when the pastor speaks.   The relationship starts when they are little girls and made to feel guilty for not going to church and at least pretending to be decent, holy and utterly sanctified. Black Women Given a Tough Choice: My President or My Pastor?

By Dr. Boyce Watkins

  1. For this black woman, the issue of approving gay marriages by this president is greatly overshadowed in importance by what a Romney presidency would mean for Americans who are not wealthy, including us. Willard is for defunding Planned Parenthood, whose services are 97% non-abortion and include breast/uterine cancer screenings, prenatal care, sex education for youth, and treatment for STD’s. These are what are federally funded, and Romney would deny them to women who would otherwise have no access to them. Then, he agrees with the Ryan budget which would have cut funding for things like Medicare, Medicaid, education (Pell grants), and health care.
On top of it all, he would increase funding for defense and is itching for a war with Iran. This doesn’t even take into account his horrible record as governer of Massachusetts, which ranked 47th out of all 50 in job creation or his well-deserved reputation as a vulture capitalist at Bain company, where he and his cronies got even richer by bankrupting companies and firing thousands of workers. While I have some mixed emotions about same-sex marriage, they would not impact me. However, Romney’s proposed policies would have a far-reaching and long-lasting negativity on the quality of my life. For all these reasons, I am not changing my mind about voting to re-elect Barack Obama. It’s not about being “in love” with him but about a clear-eyed, unsentimental view of how either man would affect the quality of my life.

  2. I don’t condone homosexuality however; the same people who are up in arms over this are the same ones who commit mad sin daily too. If you fornicate then you have no right to point the finger at anybody. Just like they’ll have to answer for their sins, so will you.

  3. There is no choice to make. Obama vs your pastor is nothing but trash. Not worth the discussion. I have other reasons to be in opposition to the teaching of most black ministers and it has absolutely nothing to do with president Obama. Most black ministers are teaching one thing and living life in a different way…they talk out of both sides of their mouth and that is what more harmful to black females and the black community.

  5. Black women don’t have to choose. I worked on the first Obama campaign. Black women did not support him until the 11th hour. That’s because black women have psychological issues with black men no matter how successful they are.

Second, black women are in alliance with “down low” brothers. The churches are full of them and many sistah’s are knowinlgly involved with them.

Try reconciling everything I just said. You can’t because we are as a people are lost. But white america can reconcile it. That’s because they are laughing at us.

Finally, the last time a sistah stepped to me with her church game, I cussed’ her and good. That’s because I am an educated black male professional and she was nothing but ghetto trash.

    • I worked on the campaign as well, and black women were aboard not long after his announcement to run for President, however; many wanted to know if he was concerned about the black “issues.” “Ghetto Trash” has no gender.

I agree w/ this article. We as black women did fall in love w/ Obama, and his relationship w/ Michelle. We as black women to love our pastors’ and respect their opinion, even if we stray from the teaching, will still know right from wrong.

  6. Let’s take it down to the brass tacks. The choice is really about The God I serve or the World. Ask yourself this question. Does the God I serve agree with the Homosexual issue? Somebody tell me what the difference is between Gay, Lesbian,Bisexual,Transsexual and Sodomite? You see, that’s how scripture describes those particular lifestyles. Your preacher knows this but choses to serve the World when he agrees with the POTUS. The Creator of the Universe is a Liar if they do not ALL burn in the lake of fire. Excuse me, but, does that make Him a homophobe? Can someone tell me, please, when He changed his mind about Sodomites? Any so called preacher that preaches this blasphemy of ‘inclusion’ will surely answer to The Most High. They know who they are.

  7. Are you serious? Black women just can’t get a break from the ridiculousness can we???????????
