Benefits of Drinking Lemon Water Early In the Morning

I know you probably don’t know this: If there is one thing that celebrities love, is starting their day by taking a glass of lemon water. Both Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman and supermodel Naomi Campbell reach for a glass of lemon water, as the first thing in the morning. Also Martha Stewart drinks “green juice and the juice of a whole lemon every morning. And lots of water.” Even Beyoncé drinks one gallon of lemon water every single day. But do you know why?

There are some huge benefits to drinking lemon water as your first action in the morning.

Based on data obtained from the American Department of Agriculture. The juice of a half a lemon contains 9.3 milligrams of vitamin C—about 10 percent of an average human being’s recommended intake of the nutrient. To be specific, the adults should consume 65-90 milligrams of vitamin C on a daily basis, as Katherine Zeratsky, RD, LD, explained to the Mayo Clinic.

So beginning your day with an intake of vitamin C can be good for your personal health, more if it gets you to attain your daily requirement of this essential nutrient.

Vitamin C is an antioxidant and thus can assist regenerate other antioxidants, prevents scurvy and boosts your immune system—as per the National Institutes of Health.

And as a healthy lifestyle coach Liz Traines said to Extra Crispy, “water and lemon in the morning can create an alkaline condition in the body, which assists one’s body to thrive.”

The other benefits of drinking water with lemon in the morning, as illustrated to ‘Reader’s Digest’ by Erin Palinski-Wade, RD, CDE—a registered dietician, include: boosting your metabolism, improving organ function, and even promoting regular bowel movements. But these are also the same benefits of staying hydrated—with or without citrus fruits.

So eventually, drinking water with lemon is not significantly more beneficial for your health compared to drinking a regular pure glass of water. Basically, the biggest benefit of adding some lemon juice to your water is to trick your body into drinking more water throughout the day—and that is probably a good step, especially because, some surveys reveals that 75 percent of the Americans are chronically dehydrated.

So please drink a lot of lemon water in the morning, even if there’s no evidence that doing so will transform you into Beyoncé. At least you will be well hydrated, and better prepared to face the day.
