Serena Williams has apparently revealed that she is 20-weeks pregnant with her first child. She shared a close up of her growing bump on Snapchat.
The announcement has created fears to some of her fans that she might never return to the sport. It has left the sport’s chattering class wondering to what degree she was looking ahead to life after tennis.
The world’s number two has not played since the Australian Open in January where she beat Sister Venus 6-4, 6-4 to attain her 23rd grand slam title. She’s been inactive since her victory over her elder sister Venus in the final.
Williams’ victory at Melbourne Park made her the oldest player to win a major singles championship in the Open era, breaking a record she set herself last year and also the previous year.
We can remember that in December, Serena announced that she was engaged to Alexis Ohanian who is a co-founder of Reddit, a social messaging site.
The proclamation comes one week after the former world No1 and two-time grand slam champion, Victoria Azarenka, announced she would return to the tour after a 14-month layoff that included the birth of her son in December.
William, who is now close to 40 years, has made people not to think less of her career. She has won several grand slam titles. During her teens, she won one, in her twenties (12) and thirties more than triple the previous mark.
There are more reasons to believe Williams has unfinished business. She has maintained an all-time grand slam record held by Australia’s Margaret Court.
Williams’s tentative beginning trace back in 1997. It was her first year as a WTA competitor, in the shadow of her sister, who had shown herself to be a promising young player. She completed the 1997 season ranked ninety-nine, an impressive debut year for a sixteen-year-old player.
In spite of Williams’s tremendous wealth and success, she has remained down to earth. She is a Christian that preaches and teaches the Bible to others.
As world-famous tennis stars, she has been the subject of numerous rumors and negative reports in the media, but she tries to ignore such press.
We are ascertained that William will make a good parenthood with her desirable attributes of levelheadedness, healthy family relationships, and spiritual background.
