Gabrielle Union doesn’t need a man to make her feel complete. She doesn’t feel the need to be by his side all the time either. According to Union, her husband, NBA star Dwyane Wade, couldn’t be happier with this arrangement.
Several gossip rags picked up on the fact that Union was not at her normal court-side location to cheer on the Heat the other night. Was there trouble in paradise? What could possibly keep an NBA wife from watching her million dollar man put a ball in a hoop?
According to Union, she just needed some time to herself, and her husband is perfectly fine with that. She doesn’t need to have her hand held 24/7 and neither does he. She puts it like this, “He [Wade] appreciates my independence, and my high credit score, and the fact that if I want a Chanel bag, I’m not asking for his Amex; I’ve got my own.”
Why would Union need a break? She has been filming “Being Mary Jane” for BET, she just finished filming and promoting “Birth of a Nation” which was a mega-million smash sale at the Sundance Film Festival, she has a clothing line, her own wine, and is a spokesperson for Neutrogena.
Union clarifies her relationship by reminding us that you don’t have to smother each other when your spouse is your best friend. She said, “If you have good, effective, honest communication, you can handle any issue or problem in a relationship. D is literally my best friend. We really, really enjoy spending time with each other more than anybody else. Well, with D, maybe I’m tied with LeBron! But I’m definitely his favorite female! If you have the chance to marry your best friend, I would highly recommend it.”
