Even though Khloe Kardashian originally filed for divorce from Lamar Odom in December 2013, it was not until this past July that they both signed the documents, meaning that the two are still legally married, and Kardashian will now be responsible for making medical decisions on his behalf as he lay in a coma following a suspected drug overdose. Odom was found unconscious at the Love Ranch, a Nevada brothel, and is now on life support after suffering a suspected stroke brought on by cocaine use.
According to the Los Angeles Superior Court, a judgement has not been entered into court, meaning the couple’s divorce is not official, and it is up to Kardashian to make decisions for Odom until he regains consciousness, unless Odom has a medical directive. There could be a potential fight brewing between Odom’s family and Kardashian depending on whether or not family members want the right to make medical decisions on Odom’s behalf.
Kardashian has reportedly been at Odom’s bedside since Tuesday evening along with her family and is said to be “beside herself” over Odom’s hospitalization. According to doctors, Odom is currently on a ventilator as well as a three to five hour dialysis for kidney failure. He is also said to have four other major organs that are failing, giving him a 50/50 chance of surviving.
A source close to the family told People that the Kardashians are preparing to say goodbye, stating, “They’re pretty sure this is goodbye, but they’re praying for a miracle. They know that God has the power to heal him, but that’s really the last hope at this point. This is really bad.” With this in mind, Kardashian arranged for Odom’s two children to be flown to Nevada from New York to be by their father’s bedside.
According to the same source, Odom “never signed a living will, so Khloe is making decisions for him,” adding that the situation is “very stressful. She is lost.”
