It is clear that Will and Jada Pinkett Smith have had huge success, with their ventures, through their production company, Overbrook Entertainment. Now the Smiths’ empire is looking to break into the Latin film market. The film is said to be inspired by true events and falls underneath the Overbrook umbrella. The film is said to be based on the real life events of a 14 year old Columbian girl, whose father was murdered in the 1980s. The film will not necessarily focus on the young girl but on a US multinational, played by Pinkett Smith, investigating the crime. Sources are saying that Pinkett Smith was recently in Bogota, Columbia meeting with President Juan Manuel Santos, Culture Minister Mariana Garces and other organizations discussing the project.
Pinkett Smith also met with the director of the film, Jhonny Hendrix Hinestroza. The Afro-Cuban filmmaker is known for his film, Choco. Michael and Jeff Zimbalist wrote the screenplay for the upcoming film. Producing the film, along with Overbrook is, All Rise Films which is the company of the Zimbalist screenwriters.
