Photographer Sues Jazz Phenom Esperanza Spalding For Album Cover

Theesperanza-spalding-54th-annual-grammy-awards-04 album is almost a year old and has mega success. So why is Jazz phenom, Esperanza Spalding being sued over the album cover?  The 2011 Gammy Award winning artists is being taken to court for $500,000 by photographer, Kevin Ryan. Ryan is claiming that he never received credit for taking the photograph for the “Radio Music Studio” album cover.

The album earned Spalding, Best Jazz Vocal Album at the Grammys.  The photo features Spalding sitting on an 80’s style radio. The radio is actually a box with Ryan’s photos attached to them.

According to reports in The New York Post, Spalding spotted Ryan’s creative work at an art gallery, in Brooklyn. It was Ryan’s friend who attached his images to the box and put them on display. Ryan claims that he has tried to get what he was owed, but was ignored by Spalding’s reps.

  1. These statements are factually incorrect. This person was not present at the photo shoot of the boom box. The original photographs prove that the photographs are, in fact, of a real boom box, not a prop, not a model, not a copy, nor an artwork, none of which was, in fact, “signed”.
