Kwame Kilpatrick (pictured), former Mayor of Detroit declined the opportunity to testify in his own defense Wednesday at his corruption trial. The trial has lasted for 70 days and Wednesday marked the final day of the prosecution presenting evidence against Kilpatrick.
At his trial, Kilpatrick told the presiding judge that he understood his right to testify in his own defense. However, Kilpatrick said that he would not take the opportunity to do so. Kilpatrick’s father, Bernard Kilpatrick also passed on the opportunity to testify in defense of his son. Bobby Ferguson, a friend of the former mayor informed the court that he would not testify as well.
