If you have a problem with declining birth rates in your country, then it is only natural that you would hire a 90’s R&B group right? That may not have been the solution that first jumped to your mind, but according to reports, it is the solution that Russia’s Vladimir Putin has decided on.
The Moscow Times reports: “The stylish trio of Boyz II Men, the most successful R&B group of all time, is coming to Moscow on Feb 6. The group will perform a selection of their classic and new romantic ballads, hopefully giving Russian men some inspiration ahead of St. Valentine’s Day.”
Even though Boyz II Men claim that they are working on their upcoming tour with New Kids on the Block and 98 Degrees, they still managed to find time to headline a February show in Moscow’s Crocus City Hall to help the Russian people increase their fertility.
Putin has long insisted that having lots of Russian babies was the key to longevity for mother Russia. Putin’s most recent PR campaign encouraged Russians to have at least three children, which he mentioned during a December speech:
New payments for those having a third child would begin next year, he said. “Demographers affirm that choosing to have a second child is already a potential choice in favour of a third,” he added. “It’s important that families make that step… I am convinced that the norm in Russia should become a family with three children.”
To achieve that goal, he said, women needed to be provided with the opportunity to continue work, so that they “did not fear that having a second and third child would close the path to a career”.
We’ll have to wait and see if birth rates increase nine months from now to know for sure if Boyz II Men’s visit did any good.
