According to news reports , Kilpatrick left the Michigan Corrections Department facility in Detroit on Monday morning after being locked up since Friday. Kilpatrick will be in court on Monday for a separate matter.
The Associated Press reports:
The Michigan Corrections Department says Kilpatrick violated parole by not disclosing all his financial transactions last fall. He still owes Detroit $855,000 in restitution and must report details about his income and expenses.
Kilpatrick was convicted of obstruction of justice in 2008 for corruption which involved his staff as well as members of the business community. Earlier this month, Your Black World reported on some of the allegations which have surfaced during Kilpatrick’s current corruption trial, which is ongoing:
Former aide to ex-Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick testified Thursday that he gave the then mayor a $10,000 bribe in a bathroom. Yesterday was also the same day that Kilpatrick was ordered to wear a tracking device and move in with his mother. The money Kilpatrick was allegedly given in the bathroom came from developers. Former aide Derrick Miller said although the bribe came from developers, it was solicited by Kilpatrick.
Kilpatrick is accused of rigging government contracts and taking payoffs. Miller, who testified against Kilpatrick, has known him since high school. Kwame Kilpatrick is the son of former U.S. Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick.
