Everyone who knows anything about Lupe Fiasco knows that he’s never been a supporter of President Obama, but some say his criticism of Obama went too far at a concert on Sunday, where the rapper insulted Obama while on stage.
Lupe Fiasco was scheduled to perform as headliner for the StartUp RockOn concert in celebration of President Obama’s second inauguration, but the anti-war hip hop artist apparently had other plans.
Instead of celebrating Obama’s victory, Lupe apparently used the event to protest Obama and his policies. After taking the stage at The Hamilton in Washington, the rapper reportedly announced that he didn’t vote for the president in the 2012 election and spent more than 30 minutes performing an anti-war song.
Regardless of how the rapper feels about Obama, 30 minutes of the same song is enough to annoy any party-goer.
Reporter Josh Rogin live tweeted the odd concert:
So Lupe played one anti-war song for 30 min and said he didn’t vote for Obama and eventually was told to move on to the next song.
Lupe refused to move to the next song so a team of security guards came on stage and told him to go.
Previously, during a 2011 interview with CBS, Lupe Fiasco called Obama a terrorist, saying, “In my fight against terrorism, to me, the biggest terrorist is Obama, in the United States of America. For me, I’m trying to fight the terrorism that’s actually causing the other forms of terrorism. The root causes of the terrorism is the stuff that the U.S. government allows to happen and the foreign policies that we have in place in different countries that inspire people to become terrorists. And it’s easy for us because it’s really just some oil, which we can really get on our own.”
So we’re curious as to who would think inviting Lupe Fiasco to an Obama inaugural event would be a good idea? What do you think? Did Lupe take it too far this time?
