First Week of 2013 Deadly in Chicago; 13 Casualties

chicago deadlyChicago has greeted 2013 with 13 casualties; 3 dead and 10 injured as the following reports from all over the city came in for the first week of 2013.

In South Loomis Boulevard, DNAinfo Chicago disclosed that a 15-year-old boy was found dead with 15 gunshot wounds, with a possible suspect in custody. The boy, Christopher Lattin Jr., was reported dead at the Stroger Hospital.

In North Talman Avenue, a 25-year-old man, David Kartzmark, was found with a chest, gunshot wound, as reported by Chicago Tribune. Kartzmark was pronounced dead on his way to Norwegian-American Hospital, in an ambulance. He was from River Grove-the 8500 block, Arnold Street.

In South Kingston, at the 8300 block, Chicago Police News Affairs disclosed that Lonika Welch, a 25 year old woman, had stabbed her mother, Angela, to death. Chicago Sun Times reported that Angela Welch died at the Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Lonika Welch was charged with first-degree murder of Angela Welch.

Chicago Sun-Times reported that across Chicago, ten more people have been victims of gun violence. In West Oakdale Avenue, at the 5100 block, a 25-year old man is in critical condition at the Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, after being shot. The other man, who is 21 years old, was grazed on the wrist.

On the Dan Ryan Expressway, one man died of gunshot wounds at the Stroger Hospital, while one was treated and released later. According to state troopers, the victims’ car was riddled with bullets by unknown assailants. One person has allegedly fled from the scene of the shooting.

In the 4600 block of North Malden Street, an unidentified woman was grazed by a bullet, and her condition is still not known at this time.

Chicago has welcomed New Year with a spate of death and injuries. Sadly, the number may increase as the second week of January 2013 begins.
