The NRA’s solution to gun violence has been to add more guns to America’s schools. During a press conference, NRA head Wayne LaPierre said that the only solution to a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.
However, gun control advocates have been quick to point out that there were guards at Columbine, and that Fort Hood was a base full of heavily armed service people.
Today on MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter called LaPierre’s suggestion a “[email protected] idea.”
Luke Russert, who was filling in for Andrea Mitchell, expressed concerns that putting off gun legislation could cause it to stall in Congress. “There is a worry amongst some folks that once time passes, once we get past the State of the Union, that this could fizzle out,” Russert said.
“Not going to happen,” Nutter quickly responded. “I think the public has been shocked and their conscious has been put on the carpet here with this one.”
Nutter also took on the logic that school shootings mean schools should have more armed guards, saying that by that logic, the incident where two firefighters were shot means that first responders should arrive on the scene packing heat.
“I think it just shows that that was a completely [email protected] idea from the start,” Nutter concluded.
What do you think? Is gun control on the way, or is America headed toward being the Wild Wild West?
