Asa Lovechild: Alicia Keys takes ‘Stick Fly’ to HBO

stickflyThe Broadway play, Stick Fly, is being taken to HBO. Alicia Keys, along with Nellee Nugent,will produce the screen version of this comedic drama. The play, written by Lydia R. Diamond, ran on Broadway during the 2011-2012 season. Diamond is turning the 135 minute play into an hour long adaptation.

Stick Fly is about an elite, African American family’s visit to their Martha’s Vinyard home. The trip is intended to be relaxing but things terribly wrong. It all starts when the sons of the LeVay family decide to bring home their significant others to meet their parents. But their visit opens up a new can of worms for the family and secrets get revealed. Stick Fly is a modern day Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner on the black hand side.

The Broadway production included Tony nominee, Ruben Santiago- Hudson( Lackawanna Blues), Dule Hill (Psych, The West Wing), and Mekhi Phifer(ER, 8 Mile).Casting for the HBO premiere has yet to be announced.
