Tragedies tend to bring people together and they also make people angry. There is probably no easier way to upset the entire nation very quickly than the events which transpired last weekend. The Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre will lie heavy on the hearts and minds of millions of Americans for the next 50 years.
The president isn’t able to get away from this issue and the gun lobby has avoided it almost entirely. The president went to Newtown, Connecticut to console the people of that town, and the visit occurred in the midst of cries from prominent figures for the president and Congress to do something about America’s gun laws. One of those people is New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
