Reports are stating that Sandy Hook Elementary School is closed indefinitely following the tragic shooting on Friday. Newtown Public School District superintendent Janet Robinson and Jim Agostine, superintendent in neighboring Monroe, are currently in negotiations to prepare the former Chalk Hill Middle School in Monroe to house students and staff displaced by the shooting at Sandy Hook.
All of the schools in the Newtown Public School District are closed today to give the community additional time to mourn the 28 lives lost on Friday. Classes at all schools (excluding Sandy Hook) will resume tomorrow. Support staff and trained counselors are available to students and staff within the district.
In a statement published on Monroe Public School District’s website, Agostine offered further details about security protocols and the future of Sandy Hill Elementary School.
