In light of the tragic murder-suicide that took place this past weekend, the NFL has committed to financially support Zoey Belcher, the three-month old daughter of Jovan Belcher and Kasandra Perkins, through college.
According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, Zoey Belcher is the beneficiary of the collective bargaining agreement signed last year. Zoey’s guardian or her estate is slated to receive $108,000 a year. When Zoey is five, she will receive $48,000, then $52,000 a year until she is 18 or 23, depending on whether or not she attends college.
Jovan Belcher’s mother, Cheryl Shepherd, currently has guardianship of Zoey. On Wednesday, Shepherd said Zoey is doing “fine,” but she herself has not eaten nor slept much following the tragedy.
