Detroit Councilwoman Tells Obama: “We Voted For You, Now Bail Us Out”

There are some in the black community who are looking for their payback from the first black president. President Obama’s administration has bailed out Wall Street, but not Main Street. State and local governments have been left to flounder, while Wall St. used bailout money to pay themselves record bonuses, and that has some folk fed up.

Among the people who are fed up is a Detroit Councilwoman who says it’s time for President Obama to bail out Detroit.

Councilwoman JoAnn Watson said Tuesday that the city of Detroit should be repaid for voting to reelect President Obama in November’s election.

“Our people in an overwhelming way supported the re-election of this president and there ought to be a quid pro quo and you ought to exercise leadership on that,” said Watson. “Of course, not just that, but why not?”

In her analysis, Watson pointed out that politics is an exchange.

“After the election of Jimmy Carter, the honorable Coleman Alexander Young, he went to Washington, D.C. He came home with some bacon,” said Watson. “That’s what you do.”

The man to whom Watson is referring, Coleman Alexander Young, served as mayor of Detroit for 20 years.

The White House has not expressed any interest in bailing out cities. During the early days of the recession, the idea of bailing out cities was mentioned, but quickly squashed.
