There were protests and people screamed about how immoral it was to start Black Friday shopping right after Thanksgiving dinner. But none of that mattered, because you still showed up to give corporations all of your money. This year’s Black Friday (and Thursday) were the grandest ever, with 247 million consumers dropping money in stores and on websites. This is a 9% jump from last year.
Not only were there more shoppers, there was also more money being spent. A total of $423 was spent per customer, rising from $398 last year. Total spending rose to $59.1 billion, which is 13% higher than last year.
