The former voice of Elmo (Kevin Clash) may be heard for the next two years, on Sesame Street. The New York Post is reporting that the puppeteer has filmed enough episodes that will last for some time. Clash resigned, last week after a 2nd accuser surfaced, saying that he was underage at the time of his involvement with Clash.
Clash was slapped with a $5 million dollar lawsuit from the second accuser, Cecil Singleton. A case from the 1st accuser may be pending, after Sheldon Stephens took back his recanted statement and said that he was telling the truth. Despite the recent scandal, Elmo has proven to still be a favorite among Christmas shoppers, as TMZ is reporting that stores have not been hindered by the unfortunate events.
The show must go on. In spite of all of the drama, Elmo and friends were present at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 22nd with another puppeteer operating the character, in place of Clash. Sesame Street has continued to insist that the resent turn of events will not affect production in any way, as they have puppeteers on hand that have been acting in Clash’s place.
