A Muslim security guard who said his co-workers called him al Qaida was awarded $465, 000 in lost wages and personal distress by a jury. The jury ruled that Los Angeles-based Andrews International created a hostile work environment for Abas Idris.
Idris also said that he was told by management not to zip up his black rain jacket because he looked “too black.” He also claimed that he was referred to by co-workers as a “goddamn terrorist.”
An attorney for Andrews International says it does not practice discrimination and even promoted Idris to a supervisory position. It plans to appeal the verdict.
