FAMU Student Robert Champion Was Gay

CBS News has reported what turns out to be an interesting twist in the case of Robert Champion, the Florida A&M student who was beaten to death in a hazing ritual.  It turns out that Champion was gay. There is no indication as to whether or not his sexuality contributed to the severity of the beating which took his life, but this finding could have legal ramifications according to hate law legislation.  There is also the question of whether or not homophobia played a role in the outcome. Florida A&M University lies in the middle of controversy since Champion’s death.  The university’s president has been asked to resign by the governor, and the band has been suspended since the beating.  Additionally, other hazing incidents have come to light since Champion’s death.
