By Barry Burch Jr. Who is the first person you think of when you hear the word "diva?" Could it be Aretha Franklin? Well how about unapologetic diva? Wait, answer that question after you have viewed the video of, yes, The unapologetic diva (see said video), refusing to acknowledge fellow diva, Patti LaBelle, at a Women of Soul concert held by the White House over the weekend. The concert was part of the "In Performance at the White House" series and featured Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle, Jill Scott, Janelle Monae and Ariana Grande. Despite being in the White House and performing alongside distinguished peers, Franklin seemingly refused to change her stance on her and LaBelle's apparent conflict. While it is unclear what the, or if there is any, problem at all between Franklin and LaBelle, her actions at the event would make you think that there most certainly is. Not only does Franklin seem to look in utter disdain at LaBelle as she passes her by, but after doing so she purposely moves herself so that she can avoid touching LaBelle's hand though LaBelle was obviously reaching out for some love. This would not be Franklin's first feud in the media as she has had several. In 2008 there seemed to be a misunderstanding between Franklin and Tina Turner after Beyoncé referred to Turner as “the queen” during a salute at the Grammy Awards. Franklin expressed her disappointment. Turner attempted to downplay the remarks in USA TODAY . "There were so many kings and queens there that night. Her ego must be so big to think she was the only one.” She laughed, “That’s how queens are!” Franklin did not like that either. She accused Beyoncé and Turner of attempting to cause controversy. Though the reason behind Franklin's attitude towards LaBelle is unknown, it was indeed cold and obvious.
